TWO-DIMENSIONAL AREAL DNAPL RECOVERY WITH NEUTRAL BUOYANT COSOLVENT FLOODING Physical Model Design and Operation

چکیده
Introduction Dense non-aqueous phase liquids (or DNAPLs) are liquids that are water immiscible and at the same time are heavier than water. When a spill occurs, these liquids can migrate into aquifers and become trapped in the pores. Some techniques proved to be efficient for the recovery of DNAPLs from the aquifers. One method is the injection of fluids through injection wells, for example, cosolvent flooding, which consists on injecting alcohol solution and other miscible fluids into the ground. For this research, we are designing and assembling a twodimensional laboratory model to investigate effects of mobility ratio and horizontal well patterns on residual DNAPL removal efficiency.

Effects of Areal Orientation on DNAPL Recovery by Neutral Buoyant Co-solvent Flooding
INTRODUCTION Dense non-aqueous phase liquids (DNAPLs) are organic contaminants in ground water characterized by low solubility and density greater than water [1]. DNAPL-contaminated aquifers frequently are treated using the remediation technique known as pump-and-treat [2]. The process can reduce the mass of DNAPL contamination to residual saturations by injecting water though injection wells a...
متن کاملStatic and push-pull methods using radon-222 to characterize dense nonaqueous phase liquid saturations.
Naturally occurring radon in ground water can potentially be used as an in situ partitioning tracer to characterize dense nonaqueous phase liquid (DNAPL) saturations. The static method involves comparing radon concentrations in water samples from DNAPL-contaminated and noncontaminated portions of an aquifer, while the push-pull method involves the injection (push) and extraction (pull) of a rad...
متن کاملTwo Phase Flow in Porous Media: Scaling of NAPL Displacement by Water Flooding on a X-Y Plane
When performing experimental work to study the recovery of NAPLs (non aqueous phase liquids) from porous media by water flood, scaling seems to be a critical step in the production of useful data that can be obtained from lab experiments. During many years, scaling was a very common technique in the petroleum industry. This technique was highly developed in the oil field in order to achieve gre...
متن کاملSensitivity Analysis of Water Flooding Optimization by Dynamic Optimization
This study concerns the scope to improve water flooding in heterogeneous reservoirs. We used an existing, in-house developed, optimization program consisting of a reservoir simulator in combination with an adjoint-based optimal control algorithm. In particular we aimed to examine the scope for optimization in a two-dimensional horizontal reservoir containing a single high permeable streak, ...
متن کاملInvestigation of Chemical-Foam Design as a Novel Approach toward Immiscible Foam Flooding for Enhanced Oil Recovery
Strong foam can be generated in porous media containing oil, resulting in incremental oil recovery; however, oil recovery factor is restricted. A large fraction of oil recovered by foam flooding forms an oil-in-water emulsion, so that costly methods may need to be used to separate the oil. Moreover, strong foam could create a large pressure gradient, which may cause fractures in the reservoir. ...
